DeLonghi Geothermal Heat Pumps
The heat source of the future! Geothermal heat pumps, or ground source heat pumps as they are commonly known, uses the earth’s natural energy to heat and cool a home. Climaveneta by Delonghi manufacture these extremely efficient and environmentally friendly systems. They have a high capital cost but can produce very low running costs. The systems work on a rate of at least 4:1, so for one unit of electricity you will get 4 units of energy.
How do Geothermal Heat Pumps work?
A few meters below the earth’s surface the temperature remains relatively constant, despite the temperature outside. Ground temperature is warmer than the air above it during the winter and cooler than the air in the summer. GHPs harness this energy store by exchanging heat with the earth through a ground heat exchanger. Also called ground-source heat pumps, these systems move heat from the ground to a dwelling in winter, and pull heat from the dwelling and expel it into the ground during summer.
Instead of creating heat by burning a fuel, GHPs move heat from one place to where it is needed. Electricity consumption is reduced and the natural, renewable energy from the earth is used instead of fuels like diesel or gas. The systems can be installed nearly anywhere and all the pipes are buried under the ground, allowing for more flexible exterior designs which don’t have to account for HVAC equipment. Each room can be heated and cooled independently, allowing greater efficiency as heat is not lost in unused rooms.
