Woodpecker Wood Pellet Boilers

Woodpecker Wood Pellet Boilers use economical, renewable biomass energy to provide luxurious warm water central heating, domestic hot water and pool heating with relatively low running costs.

They are available in standard indoor models (above right) as well as the 'Cosyman' outdoor model (right). Model sizes range from 15-50kW.

How does it heat my house?

The Woodpecker Wood Pellet Boiler heats water and circulates it around an underfloor or radiator central heating system. The process is superbly efficient as water transfers energy around a house four times better than air. It provides powerful heating for the whole house that is silent and luxurious. The Woodpecker can also heat a domestic hot water cylinder for showers etc and can be linked to heat swimming and spa pools.

Features

The boilers are manufactured to the strict European Standard EN303-5 by Gerkros Heating Technology of Ireland. There are more than 5000 of Woodpecker Wood Pellet Boilers operating throughout Ireland and the UK. The flue emissions are well below the requirements of the NZ Ministry for the Environment and the Clean Air Zones, and the Woodpecker is one of the only wood pellet boilers that is approved for use in the Christchurch and Nelson clean air zones (conditions apply) and is listed on the Ministry for the Environment website as an approved appliance.

The Woodpecker is fully automated in starting and stopping and modulates in 5 stages from full power to 30% power by sensing the required load. This translates to very economical running costs. The new generation Woodpecker also features a self cleaning burner, self cleaning boiler as well as optional auto de-ashing.

The pellets are fed from the hopper via an automatic auger that is controlled by the burner for the rate of feed. The standard hopper is 100kg. Larger hoppers can be used to extend the refill period. Producing only a minute amount of ash, the Woodpecker requires the ash pan to be emptied on a monthly basis (depending on use). As with all boilers, an annual service is also recommended for longevity of life.

As well as heating houses, wood pellet boilers operate in several commercial facilities around New Zealand. They have been specified for buildings such as kindergartens, schools and medical centres.

Innovation

The latest Woodpecker model (due out here soon), has had new advances made. It features an integrated hopper and burner, reducing the installation clearances and enhancing the overall aesthetic. An automatic burner tube cleaning device combats the result of different properties that occur in wood pellets and cause clinker or ash fusion build up. The boiler heat exchanger tubes are also automatically swept at every start cycle and there is an option for auto ash pan cleaning to further reduce the hands-on requirement for the customer.

Environmental Benefits

Burning biomass wood pellets is environmentally friendly and wood pellets are renewable resources that are made from wood shavings, chips or sawdust.

The Woodpecker also produces are minute amount of ash and the flue gas emissions are half the maximum allowed in New Zealand's strict air quality plans.
