Renovating Your Home

Many homes need a little extra renovating to get bring them up to date, to make them warmer, to improve the living comfort and to improve the value of the home. Because New Zealand homes are traditionally not well heated or insulated, it is extremely worthwhile to retro-fit a warm water central heating system.

Central heating systems can easily be retro-fitted into homes; you don’t even need to be doing any other renovating at the same time. Radiator systems are best suited to retro-fitted installations as underfloor heating requires the pipes being laid in the concrete before building. In some cases, homes with timber floors can have underfloor heating installed under the timber although we don’t recommend it as a means to heat the room but only to warm the floor.

Do you need to improve your home heating?

Take this quick quiz to find out if you need to renovate the heating in your existing home:

Are you sick of living in a cold house?
Do you overheat one room and then freeze in most other rooms of the house?
Is your home more than 10 years old?
Does your home have insufficient insulation?
Can you see your breath when breathing out in the winter upon rising?
Do you spend a lot of money on electricity bills?
Do you have a number of different electric/gas heaters all over the house?
 Do you have condensation problems?

If you answered 'YES' to 2 or more of these questions then a retro-fitted central heating system would certainly improve your home’s warmth & comfort! It would also improve the condensation issues and make your home drier. Contact us to get a quote for your home.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

Factor in these issues when planning to retro-fit a central heating system in your existing home:

Do you have the space in a laundry or garage or potentially outside to store a heat source such as a diesel, gas or wood pellet boiler?
Does your insulation need upgrading to make the most of the heat created by the central heating system?
What is the budget for your renovations?
Are you on a fixed time limit for your renovations?
Have you considered Building Code requirements and getting a building consent for the renovation work?
