Earthquake and Product Update

February Earthquake Update

After a quiet start to the New Year we have been hit with the violent earthquake that has decimated the Christchurch central city. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the tragic loss of life, shattered lives, homes, buildings and dreams.

Several of our staff have badly damaged houses and can no longer live in them but the bulk of us are unharmed and unaffected by major damage. Christchurch however is now a very different place.

Whilst we have individually helped people where we can, the best way that we can help the city get back on its feet is to continue on with the business of supplying hydronic central heating products across NZ. As with the September earthquake, this will enable us to pledge money to help with the rebuilding. We urge you to support us with your product orders to enable us to do this.

Please don’t think that we have enough to deal with at the moment and that you therefore need to leave us alone! We are presently fully stocked, keen to supply your order and assist with pre and after sales. We also need your help in keeping your account with us current please as it is not fun having to chase money in this situation. Please put pressure on your debtors so that you can help us.

Thank you for all your thoughts, correspondence and offers of assistance to help us – it is very much appreciated.

Best regards
Lyall Smith

Fund Raiser for Sept 4 Earthquake

We managed to raise $6000 from our last Baxi and Firebird boiler promotion for earthquake victims held over October and November. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce helped us to identify two small businesses that needed assistance (of course there were many!). One was a displaced consulting engineering firm E2 Environmental and the other was local fashion designer Carolyn Barker’s shop Plush on High Street. The letters received from these two companies told of despair and then tenacity and resolve in dealing with their hardship. We sincerely hope they manage to survive this latest shock.

Fully Stocked

We were amazed that we didn’t lose any stock in the earthquake. The product on our racks reaches 6m in height and we witnessed the racks swaying 1m from end to end and side to side and had no idea how it all managed to stay up! It also is the first year since our inception nearly 10 years ago where we have been fully stocked going into the busy season. Business growth, product manufacture lead times and shipping issues have made this difficult in the past. So we have doubled our efforts (as well as the products) to avoid those frustrating ‘nil-stock’ situations.

Training Update

Our training course scheduled for last week (23rd-25th Feb) have had to be postponed due to the recent earthquake. We will be moving these courses to March 30- 1 April. The training courses for March 3rd-5th are still going ahead and we look forward to seeing you.

CHNZ has recently donated Baxi condensing boilers and DeLonghi Radiators to Wellington Institute of Technology (WELTEC) to assist in training plumbing apprentices on hydronic heating. As ‘wet’ central heating is part of the plumbing training in most other countries in the world except NZ and Australia, we believe it needs to be included here and actively promote the training of ‘new blood’ coming up through the ranks.

New Products

Baxi Eco3

The new Baxi Eco3 is based on the similar chassis of the Luna3 but has simple analogue controls and an LCD screen for diagnostics. The boiler comes as a modulating 24kW system boiler in either LPG or NG and compliments our boiler range as a price competitive, entry level boiler, still with the high reliability of the Baxi product.
