Gas boilers

Gas boilers provide heat for radiator and underfloor systems equally well and can use either LPG or Natural Gas. This makes gas central heating a flexible option when determining which heating method is right for you. Central Heating New Zealand recommend gas boilers where natural gas is available.

Central Heating New Zealand uses Baxi gas boilers for their efficiency and reliability. There are three main types of gas boiler. System boilers offer a robust entry level to central heating.  Condensing boilers achieve high efficiency  by condensing water vapour which would otherwise have been wasted. Combination boilers heat both your home and your hot water.

Virtually silent, gas boilers can be positioned almost anywhere inside or outside a house. Baxi gas boilers come complete with integral pump, expansion vessel, pressure relief valve and pressure gauge. They are also supplied standard with a 1m horizontal balanced flue. In order to retain efficiency (and low running costs) and to keep the system running smoothly, we recommend annual servicing for gas boilers.

Air-to-water heat pump

Air-to-water heat pumps are among the most efficient heatsources on the market. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint and increase your home's energy efficiency, an air-to-water heat pump is an absolute must. It is a relatively cheap, simple, and eco-friendly choice for your home. Air to water heat pumps take heat from the outside air and transfer it to a water based central heating system. The heat that is created can be used for underfloor or radiators.

Chofu heat pumps are made in Japan and have been tried and tested in New Zealand for the past five years. The high-quality heat pump feature a single phase inverter compressor with an integral room controller for heating times and temperatures, including domestic hot water production. Chofu is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to many Japanese and European heat pump companies. With proven technology, Chofu heatpumps come with a five year warranty.

Diesel boilers

Central Heating New Zealand offers a range of quality European diesel boilers from Firebird. Firebird boilers provide the best diesel heating solutions possible for each central heating installation. These floor-standing boilers are about the same size as a modern washing machine.  Typical positions for the boiler are in an attached garage, laundry or cupboard. External models are also available which are sited outside and come with an integral flue.

Diesel boilers require the installation of a fuel tank outside the house. Local authority laws sometimes require a bund or secondary containment for the fuel tank to be installed as well. Fuel tanks are installed on a concrete pad. Diesel fuel delivery is available in all urban and rural areas in New Zealand.  In order to retain efficiency and to keep the system running smoothly, we recommend annual servicing for diesel boilers.

Biomass boilers

A solid fuel boiler provides an alternative option to a traditional gas or electric boiler. It works in a similar way, usually utilising the same kind of pipes and radiators, however the main difference is the fuel.  Solid fuel comes in multiple forms including pellets, coal and wood.  

For those on lifestyle blocks, Attack boilers can be a good option.  Log boilers have the ability to heat large homes and hot water cost-effectively for those with a plentiful supply cheap firewood.

Ground source heat pumps

A geothermal heat pump or ground source heat pump (GSHP) is a central heating and/or cooling system that transfers heat to or from the ground.

Ground source heat pumps use the earth, or a body of water, as a heat source in winter and as a heat sink during summer. This design takes advantage of the moderate temperatures in the ground to boost efficiency and reduce the operational costs of heating and cooling systems.

Climaveneta by DeLonghi manufacture extremely efficient and environmentally friendly GSHPs. Setup costs are significantly higher than conventional central heating solutions, but the difference is returned in energy savings during the life span of the system.

Ground source heat pumps are much cheaper to run than conventional central heating systems. 

Because GSHP can be fully automated they demand much less work than biomass boilers and there is no need to manage fuel deliveries

GSHPs are safe. There is no combustion involved and no gas emission. No flues are required.

GSHPs require less maintenance than combustion based heating systems. They also have a longer life than combustion boilers.
