Swimming and Spa Pool Heating
It is possible to heat your spa and swimming pool from the central heating system. This helps to spread the capital cost of purchasing the heat source and makes heating your pool more convenient.
A heat exchanger is used to separate the central heating system water from the pool water. This is usually housed next to the pool filtration plant. If the heat source is located in the house, pipework needs to run to the heat exchanger. Water is very efficient at transferring energy, but we recommend a maximum distance between the heat source and the heat exchanger of 20 metres. If the pool filter is further away, we recommend a stand-alone boiler be located in the pool filtration area.
A boiler is very powerful and capable of heating a pool very rapidly, so this is an excellent means of extending the swimming season, while spreading the capital cost of the boiler system. Geothermal heat pumps and air to water heat pumps are also very efficient heat sources that can for heat swimming pools and spas.
