Happy Holidays 2010

2 December 2010

Well another busy year is nearing its end and its had its highs and lows for everybody I am sure! The recession has meant we have all had to scale back in certain areas although the prospects for our industry are reasonably bright going into 2011. Even though the number of homes in NZ that are centrally heated is less than 1%, there is a growing awareness across the country that we believe will continue to grow. We have enjoyed being involved in some very interesting projects around NZ with you this year. We are looking forward to a break getting back into it again next year! Until then, have a great Christmas and a happy New Year.

Baxi Commercial Boilers Seminar Well Received

This November Central Heating New Zealand was pleased to host John McCarthy and Samuele Nichele from Baxi Group/BDR Thermea in Europe. During their visit to Christchurch John and Samuele presented a seminar for the assembled mechanical specifiers and engineers outlining Baxi’s commercial gas boiler offerings as well insight into the company’s operations in Europe and across the globe.

The Seminar highlighted the advantages of the range for Baxi commercial condensing boilers and presented system examples of the latest cascading (multiple boiler) installations in public and commercial premises, as well as briefly touching upon future solutions including microCHP (Combined Heat & Power) and Solar integration.

To find out more about Baxi Commercial Systems, a brochure is available from our ProductSpec pages or if you are interested in receiving a copy of the presentation please email Central Heating New Zealand’s training manager John Walker.

Poujoulat Insulated Flue Now Certified to NZS2918:2001

We’re pleased to announce that the Poujoulat Therminox modular insulated flue system has been successfully tested in accordance with AS/NZ 2918:2001 Installation of Solid Fuelled Heating Appliances by Nelson-based Applied Research Services (ARS).

The flue was tested to Appendix F of this standard which includes running the flue continuously at 760°C and for 30 minutes at 1125°C to simulate a soot fire. The flue passed with flying colours; even at 1125°C inside the flue, the point where the outer skin touched the roof flashing was only at 91.5°C which is cool enough to meet the standard and use an EPDM flashing.

Insulated flues are highly recommended for solid fuel installation as the higher internal flue temperature helps to promote complete combustion and prevents deposition of creosote and condensation inside the flue. This means they are better for the environment, need less cleaning and are better for the solid fuel boiler system as a whole.

To find out more about this top-quality European flue system, contact us on 0800 357 1233 or visit the CHNZ specification page on ProductSpec.net.

Two More Central Heating New Zealand CPD Courses Accredited

Two new courses have been accredited for CPD points by the Plumbing, Gasfitters and Drainlayer’s board (PGDB) for 14 technical CPD points each subject to attending the course and completing a multiple choice assessment test in attendees own time.

Installation and Commissioning of Firebird Diesel Boilers

The course covers the functionality and key components of the boilers and their accessories such as flues and fuel systems. Commissioning is covered in theory and demonstrated in practice for standard efficiency boilers using a fuel pressure gauge and smoke gun, and high efficiency condensing boilers using a flue gas analyser.

Solid Fuel Boilers for Heating and Hot Water

Covers the basics of designing solid fuelled boiler systems for radiators, underfloor, DHW or small commercial applications. The course includes specific information on the Attack multi-fuel natural convection boiler, the Attack wood gasification boiler, and the Woodpecker self cleaning wood pellet boiler.

The next round of training courses is scheduled for February, to find out more info about these sessions, email John Walker, our training manager, or call 0800 357 1233.
