Dan Christian joined Central Heating New Zealand in 2015. Ten years on, he’s still going strong and still winning most of the lunchtime ping pong games. Around here, Dan’s known for his sharp eye, calm approach, and precise work. Just don’t expect him to admit it.
He started in the warehouse and remembers feeling overwhelmed on day one. “I remember thinking, man, there are a lot of different products, I’m never going to remember where they all are.” But he did, and more. He quickly built deep product knowledge that helped installers and lifted the understanding of the wider team, too.
As Central Heating New Zealand grew, Dan shifted into drafting, creating underfloor layouts and schematics alongside Geoff, our first heating engineer. With his drive to learn, technical mind, and knack for detail, he was soon promoted to Design Engineer. He takes quiet pride in solving tricky heating challenges, often being the one the team turns to for a fresh approach.
The engineering team calls him the guy who never makes mistakes. He’d argue that’s not true, but no one can remember the last time he did.
Over the years, he’s seen the industry change. More systems are now powered by air-to-water heat pumps as the technology continues to improve. Dan sees that trend only growing, with Central Heating New Zealand playing a key role in helping Kiwis move towards smarter, more energy-efficient solutions.
There’s not much that surprises him in heating anymore, except how fast time goes, or how office jobs can sneak up on your waistline if you're not careful.
His role may have changed over the years, but Dan’s has stayed true to who he is. He’s kind, helpful, and always willing to lend a hand. He’s also quick-witted, with the sort of dry humour that keeps the team smiling. When asked how Central Heating New Zealand compares to past jobs, Dan, who once worked on a farm, simply says, “Everyone’s better than cows… mostly.”
Outside of work, he keeps his mind and hands busy. You’ll find him under the hood of his car, tweaking his central heating setup, heading into the hills in his 4WD, or playing sport with mates. Just don’t challenge him to ping pong unless you're ready to lose.
Dan is a true asset to Central Heating New Zealand. He lives our core values, drives our innovation, and we’re lucky to have him.
