The rise in popularity of inslab heated floors in New Zealand over recent years has led Central Heating to explore the suitability of cooling slabs to provide cooling relief comfort for the warmer months. Using the same Air-to-Water heat pump for warming the floor slab in winter, we can now confidently put it in a reverse cycle chilling mode, and it cools the floor slab down. This cooler floor slab absorbs heat from the structure of the home that is gathered throughout the day. Common misconceptions
If you cool your slab down, condensation on your slab will appear
Central Heating New Zealand has specifically designed the new intuitive Smart One Controller for New Zealand radiant heating and cooling systems. As a room thermostat, it works by sensing the air temperature, switching on the heating when the air temperature falls below the thermostat minimum setting, and switching off when the set temperature has been reached. With the added feature of a floor probe, you get the complete accurate underfloor temperature and humidity control. When the humidity is too high in a floor slab, condensation can appear but with the humidity control and sensor on the Smart One Controller, users have confidence that humidity will not get high enough for condensation to appear.
Switching your system to cooling will affect your domestic hot water
Our high-quality Chofu Air-to-Water heat pumps can be put into a reverse chilling mode to cool the floor slab down. Whilst in chilling mode the air-to-water heat pump recognises when it requires heat for domestic hot water production – having the heat pump in the chilling mode does not affect this at all.
You cannot open windows or doors when the cooling mode is on
