Situation

Set against the stunning backdrop of Golden Bay, New Zealand, the Tākaka Cohousing Neighbourhood is a model of community and sustainability. From its beginnings in 2019 to the completion of stage one in 2023, residents have come together to build a close-knit, intergenerational community that supports one another while creating affordable housing opportunities. The Common House was next on the project list. The hub is the residents’ collective second home. It’s where the community can gather for meals, making decisions together, celebrating and connecting, becoming the central point of the community.

Approach

With a vision for creating environmentally friendly, sustainable homes that enhance well-being and foster connections among residents, hydronic central heating emerged as the top choice to meet high sustainability standards. At Central Heating New Zealand, we offer a range of heat sources tailored to diverse heating needs. Prioritising environmental sustainability, the customer selected our 45kW Attack Wood Gasification Boiler. Biomass, including wood-based fuel, plays a key role in New Zealand's renewable energy sector, reducing greenhouse gas emissions while utilising a resource based on living organisms like wood. Although log burner boilers require a significant amount of wood, they deliver substantial energy output. To maximise efficiency, the system incorporates a Fiorini 1,000L buffer tank to store heat, seamlessly powering four horizontal and five vertical radiators. Strategically placed throughout The Common House.

Outcome

Central Heating New Zealand supplied an Attack Wood Gasification Biomass Boiler, paired with a Fiorini buffer tank and expansion vessel. This renewable energy system powers our range of horizontal and vertical DeLonghi radiators, delivering consistent, efficient heat throughout the space. The boiler’s advanced technology ensures an eco-friendly, cost-effective solution that aligns with the commitment to sustainability. The warm, radiant heat creates a welcoming environment for residents, perfect for gatherings and community events. It’s not just about warmth—it's about enhancing the comfort and connection at the heart of the Tākaka Cohousing Neighbourhood.
